  1. I resently acquired this 257lbs Soderfors from the widow of the late Art Adams of Fresno CA. This was the anvil I learned on nearly 20 years ago and got me hooked on blacksmithing. It had sat in his little smithy for 6 years while his health faded. I cleaned it up (along with the Mousehole behind it) and treated it to a liberal coat of boiled linseed oil. It still has fairly good rebound at about 75-80%. Less than my S&H.

  2. I just had my last event for the season last weekend and though it was a little slow on the stock I brought, I more than made up for it by telling as many people as possible that I buy and sell blacksmithing equipment. Sold two anvils to aspiring smiths at just above cost. Couple of tongs too!

I like the idea of keeping track in a notebook on how peoples grandfathers were blacksmiths or "is that a real fire?" .

  3. I came across this 200lbs anvil through a CL ad. The ad's picture had me thinking it was a Fisher from the shape and the placement of the "200" on the foot. This is my picture from when I went look at it yesterday. I was really hoping it was a Fisher for the guy only wanted $220 for it. Under the heel was a upside Y76, but no other markings. Rebound was really bad at like 30-35% and the face had several deep hammer marks. So was this a Chinese clone or just a abused Fisher?post-35726-0-59083200-1411966461_thumb.j

  4. The floor plate came out of my local steel yards "scrap" area. I think it was some kind of a jig plate that was used very little. It's 1/2" thick and weighs 250lbs.

This vise sits around 8" lower than my other vises so it works really good for upsetting or other projects that require heavy hammering.

  5. I had major problems with mice getting my RV and also tried the water bucket with and ramp up to it. Worked pretty good and the raccoons would clean it out for me most of the time. Mice were still getting in my RV when someone told to put fresh dryer sheets (like Bounce) in all the drawers, closets, behind the couches, in all compartments, behind anything you can reach. They hate the smell or something and I've had no mice in there as long as I put the sheets out. Refresh them once a year and it stays good. One word of caution, dryer sheets are very flammable! I would keep them away from ANY sources of ignition.

I like this method for we travel with our pets and using D-Con is to risky for them.

  6. My three leg vises, the left is my 3 1/4" traveling vise for demos. The right is my 4 1/2" shop vise and the monster in the middle is my "new" 8 7/16" Peddinghaus vise I just finished the stand for yesterday. The stand is all scrap yard finds, like the floor plate, it's a miss-cut jig table from someone, 250lbs though! All together it weighs around 500lbs.

  7. Hay Budden, just sold one like it.

Not cast, forged base. The number on the waist is a inspectors stamp. Value? Need better pictures of the face. I just sold my 253lbs Hay Budden in good shape for $900. Could have gotten $1K but I had picked this one up at a good price and decided to pass some savings on to others.

  8. I can't help you with a place in Spokane but I've used local feed stores as a delivery point since they usually have trained forklift drivers. I did just that in my local small town and promised them a demo at one or two of there coming charity events as a thank you.

  9. It is 3/4"X1/4" I get about 20-25 each for them. Only economical way is when I pound them out on my Little Giant. Sometimes I will do it the long way when I'm doing a demo. The twisted one in the above picture was sold the Friday night before a Pirate Faire I was working at last weekend, so I made another one there. Didn't sell much overall.
