This link is all I have found so far. ( about 2/3 down the page)
2 hours ago, Alan Evans said:Can you take a photograph of the foot pedal cam system...I can't quite figure it. From the original images it looks like it would lock the jaw in a position rather than put much pressure on it. So I was wondering if it was a heavy duty version of the saddler's leg clamp...the one like a pair of skis held between the knees.
But the angle the closed jaws form with the jaw on the side shown is a puzzle, difficult to get to any workpiece with horizontal tool...a needle or a file...so maybe for driving down...some type of caulking process? Any research on the makers' other products?
Just had another look at the space contained by the swan neck of the moving jaw...A hollow vessel hat or jug/pot? probably not, a circular object would need curved jaws hmmm...
Alan
I have got it loosened up an working. It just opens up by it's own weight and gravity. The closing joint is kind of like a saddled ski slope. A little oil and grease and she works great.
I have a Blacksmith meeting Saturday, I am going to take it along for show and tell.... Life is good Dave

Are there missing feet? Never seen one of these before, is it from a farriers field tool box for holding shoes? is it meant to have spikes to anchor it?
Heck, I don't know..... I just had to have it. Made by H J Boice, Fayette, OH.

I haven't done my research yet. But the jaw moves to both sides. So I don't know. Also, the moveable jaw hinge is adjustable for height. Hopefully my search will be successful . Thanks Dave

Just a bit of eye candy....If I eavesdropped correctly, These were sold as a group lot for $200 each. Setting west of main intersection on south side of drive on Friday. Can anyone verify I got it right? In the second pic, the anvil front and center was drawing a lot of attention. Oh and by the way, this is not the only skid of anvils I saw. Life is good Dave
PS JHCC yes , always next year..... ds

I took my camera and got a few pics. It was tough to remember to pull it out and do that. I think I did get one of the pallet full of anvils, that was bought as a unit as soon as it was unloaded. (gotta check on that) I did see a couple of scruffy looking guys in top hats mozzying around. Oh, and I did get some nice comments on my IFI tee shirt. (thanks Glen) The 2 cute gals under the awning on the west side especially. Life is Good Dave

I just got home from Quad State.....for those of you that couldn't make it, you will mis on heck of a show. I did my best not to, but somehow I got home with a little cash left over. @ SReynolds...how many anvils did you count? I saw a few...LOL And I am pooped....I don't know how many trips I had to make carrying stuff back to the truck. And I got lucky and parked close.....Life is Good Dave

Right you are Steve. I'm just going on Friday though so, $30 preregister. Will I see ya there? Dave

Hawgdirt, Ditto on what has been said. I'll just add....it will make a huge difference in forge size and design, depending on your location and what you want to make. Do you want to make pixie ladles from horseshoe nails or a pic axe from RR rail? Do you have access to good smithing coal, or a good propane supplier? Enjoy the ride....... Life is Good Dave

Also, if you preregister before the 21st there is a $5 discount. IIRC Life is Good Dave

I have a brick that fits perfectly over my air intake the bottom that I use to damper it when I don't need the excess heat. Especially handy when the wind shifts directions and is blowing directly into the hole lol
I figured that post was a little to obvious, LOL Carry on......yer doin' great Dave
-
MrVader, as I said before I am impressed with your build....I have a wood stove for heat and find I have better control of fuel consumption and heat, when I control the amount of intake air. Rather than trying to damper the flue. Try to block off the air inlet at the bottom some between heats. Just a suggestion... Life is Good Dave

I think the boy anvils have horns...... Dave

I'm thinking this should be required reading for any new aspiring smiths. Great job, Glen and MrVader. Life is good Dave

Holy mackerel, I'm going out to the shop to rehandle a couple of hammer heads. You guys have once again suckered me in to wasting time. Thanks for schooling me on that...... Dave

2"? rubberoid washers that I have to stretch to get over the knob on the vise handle.
I knew everything was bigger in Texas, Thomas, but 2" garden hose is a bit overkill isn't it? He He Dave

trey, I am no techie by any meens. But found out I can send a pic by text message to my e-mail account, with my old flip phone. maybe work for you aussies too? I don't know. Dave

I use garden hose end washers on mine. Same principle and works well. Life is good Dave

I was going to cast in a pun or two, but decided not to tackle this thread..... Dave

Thanks for the quick reply Heep. I hope to give it go soon. Dave
8 minutes ago, HEAP of JEEP said:I wrapped it around some 3/16 rod, then spaced it apart with a combination of a small chisel to wedge the open and my scrolling pliers to squeeze them closed, and just took it a little at a time. It took me a few heats to each one spaced evenly... and they still aren't exactly perfect, but they are close enough that it works in cork... it might be an issue with the plastic corks though.

Nice job Heep. I have been meaning to make a couple of these for my son ,that helps manage a piano bar. But me not being a corkscrew user, has me wondering if I could use a lag bolt threads to get an even wrap and spacing for the screw. Maybe a 5/16" ? Might not be an open enough thread. How did you get the spacing for yours? Thanks for the reminder Dave

Benjaman, Is the plan to bolt it to the floor or weld this to a larger plate for stability? I like a larger shelf on top to lay tools and such. Nice build so far. Life is Good Dave
