  3. Hey Grant I usually get my coal from a fuel oil supply company like the ones that deliver fuel oil to homes or you could try your local farm and feed stores. I get my coal for around $7.45 per 50 pounds at the fuel oil store. Hope this helps you out.
  4. Hey I was just trying to find out if there were any hammer in's going on in the washington or idaho area this month or the next, theres not to many blacksmiths up in this area, and been looking for a little bit of good learning. If anyone knows of anything going on let me know thanks.
  5. No I havnt yet I am hopefully going to take a Look at it monday and them im hopeing the guy will waight to sell it until my taxes come back. Even if its not in great shape i think it would be worth the money to get it and referbish it to make it new.

  10. Does anyone know anytning about horizontal trip hammers, never seen one before and wanted to know more about them its a 1903 Horizontal trip hammer without the motor and in good shape what you guys think its worth and what kinda uses would it be good for? Thanks guys Angus...
  11. Well thanks for all the advice guys, the demo went great I made a lot of old style screw drivers and spoons during the demo for people to see. They loved it, very good turn out. Angus. ______________ No its not a called a skirt and yes im regimental.
  12. How about trying to make on of them, I usually do because I look at the prices and say wow I can make one for cheaper than that.   13. I sure do appreciate the advice Mike I just keep talking to you I wont have to read all those blacksmithing books anymore. I like your stricker designe it works, I usually use strut springs off of cars for my strickers but that hay rake idea is even better. Thanks for the great ideas.   16. Wow if any one wants to be a great demostrater just read Mike Amelings book on how to do demos. That is the info I have been looking for, I really like the leaf keychain idea. I had people oooing and ahhing over my horseshoe knife I made last year it was very easy and quick to make. I will make me a leaf swag, what would be a good way to do that, being ive never used a metal swag and im still figuring things out here.   18. Hey guys, I have been invited to do a demo at our local scottish highland games coming in august, I did one before, last year and it went pretty good. This is my second demo so I am very new at this demoing thing, so if you guys got any advice on things i could ad to my show, last year I made some spoons and forks and a axe out of leaf spring. I sure do apprciate your time. Angus......
  19. I have made countless numbers of mail corras's and coifs and most of them were the customers preferance on how much they wanted to spend, so most were butted. Drawing out one end and threading it though the other in the best way and very historicaly accurate and it looks really cool. Been making armor for about ten years now so if you got any other questions just ask.

    I was very suprised it did. I took about 4 feet of it and dubled it and then dubled that and so forth all the while twisting untill I got a piece about a 1'' in diameter and then I started to weld. It welded very easily. I got the blade shaped were I wanted it and heated it to the right temp and dipped it in oil 4 times reheating it every time and then I tempered it in the oven and it turned out really good , very suprised.

    Hey found camera, here is the barb wire knife. And I tempered it and on the spark test its spot on and has been staying very sharp.
