Just in the experimental mode right now just got done with quenching it in oil a couple of times letting it cool. Just need temper it and give it a nice long acid bathe and we will see. Angus.....

Well i just talk to an old black smith around here and he said it might work out if you quinch it right so he said try a gallon of water 1 pound of rock salt and 8 oz on dawn dish soap that might work. Angus.....

Okay si i was tearing down an old chicken coop of my grandsires he build back in the 40's and found some barbdwire and had a thought maybe I can make a knife out of some, the same way you do out of cable. So I twisted some up to a pretty good stock size and welded it and brought it to a knife shape and im letting it cool down before I do some grinding work. I will post in a bit to let you guys know how it turns out. Angus

Ifitsmetal.. sounds like a good project, one ? what is ss wire not being a mig welder i dont know that part of the welding terms im a stick welder. Hey and take some pictures I would love to see how it turns out. Angus

The department want to buy a tree to plant some were on his property so they would like me to forge up a plak of some sorts to go in front of it Like( In memory of Name . And may i just say wow you guys have given me some good ideas. Lanchie76 i think i will try your idea see how that turns out, but keep the ideas coming guys I sure do appreciate it. I know nothing about her I didnt know his mom was still around John is in his 60's so that would have to make her 80 or more.

Well I need to dig out some info from you gentlman. A couple of days ago a fellow firefighters mother passed and it was brought to my attention that they would like me to forge up some sort of plac saying in memory of. You guys got any ideas I could sure use some. Thanks Angus........

I found some of that pcb mother board ether and used it but didnt work quite the way I thought, I let it sit in there for about 30 -45 minuts looked pretty good except for a few dark spots left on it. How do I get away from making those spots. Oh ya, i made the knife out of cable Angus...

Nitro I dont know were you live exactly in Idaho but I live here to, there is a hammer in in Blanchard Idaho April 5th. Anyways Ive been makeing rrspike knives and hatchets for some time and MC spikes work really good and lot of it has a lot to do with the way you heat treat it too.

I have made a hundred of these and will never get tired of them, very nice knife. A RR spike also works good for hatchets, just to give ya another idea.

I use railroad spikes for good knife steel leaf springs from older rigs works too, axles are good also. you will find you can get a lot of good iron for free if you jst look around go to a trucking companies shop and ask you can always get good scrap from them. Have fun....

Two pickup loads of coal followed me home one time and all it cost me was the gas and time to get it, with the price of coal I wont have to buy coal for the next couple of years im thinking......
