Hi Mike, I filed the 3/8" radius in the blade, shaped and polished the front of the bolsters, drilled and finished the blade at the ricaso area then pinned the bolsters after heat treated with 2 1/8th inch pins. Used a lot of sand paper, and buffed.

Don, the micarta is old ivory paper, it turns a dark yellow with age.

This is #3 for me.
1084 stock removal
Ivory paper micarta, 304 SS pins and bolster
5" blade 4 1/2" handle
10" hollow grind, tapered tang

Fit and finish isn't what I'd hoped and one bolster went crooked, plunge is pretty wavy. Hand sanded the blade to 600 after these pics, and cleaned up the handle.

Love the bolster and the thought that its got some heft lends to it.

Just offer what your willing to pay or a little less, and work up.
10% discount used to be almost automatic just for asking, but now a days who knows.

But a good shop tool. I check electrical breaker, ballast and wire temps in trouble shooting.
Also in the shop, bearing, platen temps on the grinder.

A diesel mechanic gave me mine, he was having a new HVAC system installed in his home and used it to check the hot air at the registers.

Hey Mike It's your fault . I got the idea to cut my 20'ers to 10's and store verticaly after my last visit to your shop. It's saved soo much wall space, but those littlte pieces are a bugger.

What would you say are the major advantages of this style anvil for bladesmithing?

Seems soldering has been popular subject lately. Guard and pommel fitting. Hinged tang.
The metal piece sometimes attached in front of guard at recasso (sorry don't know the term)

lay out precisely with scribe (knife handle) use spring assisted marking punch, go to hammered center punch, drill hole on drill press.....OFF CENTER

Wire brush when you come out of the fire and before you hammer to clean the scale off also brush off the anvil after each heat. Other wise you will beat the scale into the metal and much pitting will show up when begin to file.

Took the blade to 400, needs sharpening

Handle to 320.. needs a little more attention but couldn't wait to post pic's

I thought the etched work might have been overlay.

I can't tell you how much I like this knife.

Everything is appealing, every component complements the other to create a huge success.

If you don't mind I would like to attempt to copy your design, although it would be in 1084. And I know it won't come close to your excellent execution.
