  1. I would buy it buy I just bought a 320 lbs peter wright! Always seems to work out that way. The KA75 is in AZ
  2. One of these for sale and I was wondering what a fair price is and what a too good to pass up price is.
  3. The Ridgid Technical support provided this information and also blacksmiths depot says the same thing http://www.blacksmithsdepot.com/products/anvils-swage-blocks-vices/peddinghaus-anvils.html
  4. I have been looking into the peddinghaus anvil and the rep got back to me and mentioned that they are crowned from horn to horn by 3 to 5 mm. Is this good or bad?
  5. I forgot to mention that it is 2 link belts from HF (http://www.harborfreight.com/vibration-free-link-belt-43771.html) And this is the pulley I bought http://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-Transmission/Pulleys/Finished-Bore-Pulleys/2-55-O-D-7-8-BORE-2-GROOVE-PULLEY-1-2BK25-D.axd
  6. i.5 HP motor spins at 1755 so the twin belt pulley is around 2.5" diameter and the belts slip to the point that the pulley gets pretty hot. I have it tensioned quite tight but was wondering if anyone else has input on how to fix this.
  7. I found that thread but was looking for more recent and perhaps thorough feedback on what is liked and/or disliked about these anvils.
  8. Came across these anvils and was wondering if anyone here has one or has used one. They seem like a fair price and I like the shape.
  9. In my little 10 x 12' shop my propane forge radiates a lot of heat and despite the doors (9' width) being open, I am overheating. I was exhausted after 5 hours (made 2 hammers and some trivets). How do you stay cool?
  10. Didn't know that you cannot post CList stuff so I saved the pics from the listing and posted below. Definitely looks like a knock off of the 400.
  11. Found a forge for sale locally but cannot find anything on a "buffalo 206" blower. It looks almost identical to a champion 400 and has a 12" fan. Does anyone know about this thing? here is a link to the listing XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX CL ad removed
  12. www.mcgillswarehouse.com/hf11-ceramic-fiber-blanket-1in-8lb-ft3-or-128kgm3-h1cf2cf3c seems to be the best price on ceramic fiber insulation. Would this work for a gas forge?
  13. I made a new set of quick detach dies for my 50 LG, and they are taller than the stock dies. Do I have to move the clamp higher on the pitman arm? With the clamp towards the lower part of the pitman arm it seems to kind of double hit or become slightly erratic when run at full speed.
  14. I searched for info on anyone putting a DC motor on the little giant and found nothing. Has anyone done this? I was thinking about this because it might offer better control of the hammer by simply using a PWM speed control and foot pedal and there is the added benefit of not having to worry about the clutch pads either.
  15. I have been using the press and it is incredibly versatile and has the force I was looking for. I was very fortunate to have Brian Brazeal come out and train me for 3 days and we used it to make a hammer in a very short time. One heat for punching the eye and a few heats for the necking and cheeking. We took a 2-1/4" diameter 4140 2" long and squished it with the press and then used his hammer as a die to make the cupping tool. Before I bolted it to the slab I was throwing the wheel while Brian position the piece and the momentum of the wheel would rotate the whole press after it squished the piece. I am not sure how many tons it is capable of but it sure works well for me.
  16. I would like to make a steel anvil stand from some square tube from my scrap pile. I have plenty of 6" x 6" x 1/4" steel tube and plenty of 3" x 4" x 1/4" steel tube. I don't know if I should do a post style bolted to the shop floor or do the tripod style. What is the best choice of material(s) to fill the tube(s) with to dampen sound (oil, oil/sand, compressed air?). Below is a pic of the 2 anvils (160# peter wright and a 120# WBB)
  17. Called a local place and it is around $83 to do both dies. Seems reasonable
  18. The bases took some time but the dies were quite easy to make. I will check with some local heat treating companies to see what the cost would be.
  19. I recently finished machining bases (dovetail inserts with threaded holes to attach dies) and a set of combo dies from 4140 and was looking to see if anyone has experience with heat treating dies.
  20. I was looking at the firepots and wanted to see if anyone here can recommend a good firepot.
  21. What is your opinion on the specs of this coal from Utah (Salina mine); Ash 9.2% Sulfur 0.6% Volatile 36.8% Carbon 55.4% Moisture 2.7%
  22. I have the space to store it so I might as well get a large quantity and save $$$. Any suggestions appreciated.
