  1. Stormcrow, I've seen a few of your knives and let me just say, I think they are fantastic. Your work always amazes me and serves as inspiration for me, a beginner.
  2. Steve, would you mind posting a link to that sticky? I'm on the mobile version and can't seem to find it.
  3. I think you misunderstand. I do intend to make something like a khopesh, but more of a small machete/hunting knife size. I'm gonna try to heat treat as best I can, learning as I go and all that. My main question is how would you make the hook on the back? My fault, as I wasn't clear.
  4. I was wondering if anyone had ever forged a knife with such a drastic set of curves as the khopesh. Or if anyone has ever done anything similar. Any help with this AT ALL would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I really do appreciate all the advice. I think what I'm gonna do is build a low firepit with a block removed so i can make a side-blast. Gas, collalsible, table, etc. Aren't really options as storage is way beyond limited. The only thing that bothered me was when he said I asked questions to try and make people look stupid. I'm trying to learn about something I have almost no knowledge of. If I wanted to make people look stupid, I'd be saying it flat out. I've said that I apologize and I do. I won't repeat myself but I do thank everyone who has contributed.
  6. It's not seasoned. It is pretty dry though. We had s drought and I think that's part of the reason it fell.
  7. A candle with the flame going up to the other point would look pretty neat in my opinion. The non-bowl shape reminds me of a flame.
  8. First of all, not only did I NEVER call anyone stupid, I apologized and I thanked all who helped me. I refuse to keep apologizing for the same thing on an internet forum. Obviously, you didn't realize that I'm looking for the best idea that i can utilize with materials at hand. I think it's ridiculous that you expect me to thank you for posting links to gas forges when I already said why I can't and am not comfortable with using a gas forge. I don't call people stupid because they don't agree with me, but you seem to think you're being some righteous person by trying to "help" me. I give respect where it's due, and quite honestly, in this case, I can respect almost everyone's contributions but yours. I was asking those questions to elicit a response I could learn from. Not to call people stupid. Thank you for taking the time to contribute, but if all you wish to do is call me disrespectful and rude, then repeat a part of the thread, kindly don't even bother.
  9. If you find that the flap is inconvenient to reach, I would just tie a small piece of paracord or cable to it and for the other end close to your hand. Leave a little slack so you can pull it open. Probably won't even be an issue.

  11. I think we're gonna weld a plate to the bottom of the rail, drill holes in the corners, and put lag bolts through that.
  12. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was just wondering what some popular shapes were. I've got a few ideas I'd like to try as soon as I get set up. I wasn't really asking what knife to use. I guess a poll would have been better. My bad
  13. An ash tree fell in my yard afew days ago, and my dad cut a section of it long enough to use as an anvil stand. I'm wondering what I would need to do to this to secure a small rail anvil. As always, any relevant comments, tips, or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  14. I'd love to have just a metal table I could use for a forge , but rigjt now, my options are limited. But our garage is full of junk and our yard is pretty small. I either get to work with what my mom lets me build, or I don't forge.
  15. My bad, the thickness of the blade completely slipped my mind. Also, got any measurements on this blade? Just curious.
  16. I really did not mean to come across as insolent, rude, arrogant, etc. Like I said, I was tired and already frustrated at something else. Honestly, you guys have given me some ideas that I think I'll incorporate into my eventual design.
  17. Vaughn, it'd be filled to a point with something like gravel or some such. Pulse, perhaps you didn't see that I later apologized and thanked him for his help.
  18. I really do appreciate all of this. I've drawn out some plans and I think I'm going to make a circular pit about 2-3ft high, with a gap in one side. Lay a pipe in, connect it to the blower and run with it. Trial and error always works! well, it usually works. Do you guys think that blocks meant for retaining walls would be suitable to use in this? My main concern at this point is the "survivability" of the forge. I don't want to finish all of the stone work and end up with a cracked, broken mess
  19. I am kind of wondering the same thing. We had a tree fall last night that was about 2ft in diameter and I'm wondering what I need to do to it to make a stand.
  20. Yeah, I guess I'm confused cause I don't have the materials yet. Also, I KNOW I commented again right after and apologized for getting aggressive. It was late and I was already kind of frustrated. My bad, man.
  21. I'm aware, and I've actually spent hours looking at these things. I'm trying to ask for advice from someone who knows what they're doing as I'm building this in part for my mother. If it was just me, it'd be up and I wouldn't care what it looks like. And I'm case you're wondering, the fact that you posted such a useless response actually took away from any time I may have spent researching. So thanks for nothing.
  22. Well, I guess I just meant like, What's your favorite one just for a general purpose blade. One you might take camping (not a big honking "survival" knife)
  23. seems pretty good for a first knife. but heck, what do I know? I haven't even done my first legit knife! maybe it's the angle, but it seems like the portion where blade meets handle is a little thin compared to the rest of the blade. Could you maybe get a direct overhead shot?
