  1. I just got the quote for the cut steel back; $146. Seems like a decent price to me. I may order it this week but I still have to either buy or locate a welder.
  2. I bought one this year for transporting my son around in his power chair. Actually got a good deal, just over $30k for a 2005 with only 1500 miles on it. Most expensive thing I've ever bought before.
  3. I have sent an email to Clay. Mo. is a bit of distance from me.
  4. I ordered and have received the plans from the IFI store for this. One thing that was overlooked was the base plate stand. What are the dimensions on your's ApprenticeMan? Looks like 1/2" x 12" x 20"? What is your guesstimate on the weight for that plate? Larry
  5. Does someone manufacture these or are they being built by a class / smithing group? I tried going to tirehammer.com but they only have a place holder page up.
  6. There are posts in the BP's on steel content of various objects. I don't know for sure what mower blades are but being "blades" should be more than high enough carbon content to temper properly for knives or machetes.
  7. Welcome to IFI, this is a great community to be part of.
  8. Ed, do you have a picture of this cutting plate or is there a BP? Sounds like it could be useful to have but I'm not quite picturing it in my head.
  9. Welcome to the site! How long have you been smithing? Tell us about yourself!
  10. I won't be able to start hammering again yet but I was wondering what projects I could do using this lathe blade / bit that I picked up the other day?
  11. Thank you Hofi! I appreciate your reply concerning the hammer and input concerning my neck. Larry
  12. The hammer belongs to the Old Cedar Forge, about 200 miles from here. I should have asked them at the time but didn't. I cut most of my hand out of the original picture I took for scale but could repost it with my hand if it would matter.
  13. usually I pick them up for free, near the rail line itself.
  14. I was hoping he might reply but didn't want to impose on him directly.
  15. Dang, that looks pretty good for a first attempt to me. I've been forging, off and on for better than a year and I'm not sure I would do as well. On the other hand, I never think what I make is good enough.
  16. Can anyone tell me what weight of hammer this one is? I used this at the course I took back in Oct. and would like to get one of the same weight.
  17. Welcome Bronc, where are you from? Click the User CP at the top of the page and add your home town.
  18. always different stuff, classic rock, bluegrass, reggae, hiphop(Black Eyed Peas) Radio if I can't decide what I want. Sometimes just the sound of the hammer hitting steel! Talk about a Steel Pulse!
  19. I didn't see it anywhere, it was on a shelf with some odds and ends. One of the guys said to look him up next time I go, he had some tool steel, possibly some Chrome Moly from some machine that I might be interested in. Now, what could I make from Chrome Moly...............................
  20. Just got home from the scrap yard and found these in the back of the van! Got a sprocket for some small swageing, a couple of pickaxes, looks like a jack hammer blade, big forged hook, a small piece of spring steel and a bit from a big lathe.
