Thanks for all the help Thomas. Your right about the crack it does look like it would come off if worked on. I guess im just gonna radius thatvwhole side. The opposite side is fine so I will leave it alone like you said. Any way to date this thing?

Ok so got her home and wiped her down a bit now I can see a few things. Looks like "Fisher" then another word I can't quite make out. Then in middle is is either "143" or "148" then a little after that I believe the word "PATENT". Still trying to make out a little more.

Thanks guys. Im sure there is a thread about this process or I at least hope so lol. This is my first anvil. By radius im guessing you mean round off the edge? Hand grinder?

Well getting the anvil got postponed until Sunday. Guy had to go out of town til then but I am getting it. Can't wait to get her in my hands!!! I will post better pics Sunday night. Thanks for the help and info to all who replied. Every night is going to feel like Christmas Eve when I was a kid until then. Aaaaahh!!! -
This anvil is being offered to me for $150. Guy says he can't see and markings anywhere. And compares the weight to a big bag of cement. I know that's not much info at all but Im looking for my first anvil and this could be the one. Gotta drive an hour for us to meet halfway so thought I could try and get a little info first. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm Justin from Athens, Texas. 29 years old and married with kiddos. Bigtime knife freak and have been wanting to get into blacksmithing for quite some time. Finally was able to acquire me a nice forge so hoping to get going soon(waiting on coal to arrive). Anyway just wanted to introduce myself. I'm sure I will be doing way more reading than posting for a while but glad to be here and hope to learn all I can.
