depending on how bad the rock is, you could use some of the wooden wedges they use to square up doors and windows. they have worked fine for me in several different applications.

just got home saturday from working out of state on a railroad for the summer. in the back of my truck is a knuckle and two broken knuckle pins. keeping one pin for myself and the other for a friend. the knuckle is going in the iron in the hat in a couple of weeks. there was another knuckle but didnt have time to get it and not carrying it very far. ill get it in the spring when i go back.

i have used a used horse shoe for a shoe horn. came out good. drew out one half of the shoe and left a nob on the end to make into the spoon of the horn. left the other half bent as normal for the handle. it ended up being about 14 inches long, dont have to bend over so far to use it.

one of the things i like to due with raw beginners is give them a peice of 2x4 about a foot or so long and have them hit it for awhile. lets them see where tthey are not hitting.emphasizes hammer control

i get used horse shoes on a regular basis and the first thing before using them is removing the nails. i had enough cuts and scrapes when i was shoeing to last me a long time.

Das, Nice job. I do these using 1/4 inch stock and up to 1/2 inch. They go great at demo's.Somewhere on IFI there was a video of a group doing these out of 4 inch stuff I think it was. Took all day and a large group to deal with it that large.

but they were ready to trade for garden statiuary. seems to me you can get a pretty good statue for about the same amount. so i wouldnt worry to much on the moral dilemma. after all, all they can say is yes or no.
