That anvil will hurt you,or someone near you.
Have you heard of a man called Murphy?[he was a very wise man]
One of his quote's goes;A CHEAP TOOL WILL BREAK WHEN YOU MOST NEED IT!or some such  -
Thanks! I'll have to give that a shot.
-
Cheers !
-
I like it!
How did you do the handle? -
People in my area are going to Afganistan just to have a job!
Count yer blessings;cause I hear Uncle Sugar is gon'na help us some more! -

When you get to boot camp write a lot of letters you will have time. I know she is freaking out but thats what mothers do. The letters will mean a lot to her. Dont be destracted by this just focus on completing basic and it will be over before you know it.
P.S. What is your MOS?
Good Luck -
That's it a hobo with a hammer !
YOU must play dress up too! -
U R welcome !
BUT I'm gonna dress up like a b-smith 4 halloween.
so there! :D -
OH! WHY YA WANNA HURT ME????
p.s. good point. -
I have 4 IFI t-shirts.
When I blow my nose the results are often black from coal smoke.
I have shut down many conversations by talking about blacksmith'n (they get this blank look and just wander off)
I have a forge & anvil (I use them often}
I am the best blacksmith in my community; as far as I know?
I make my living as a soldier ,but I AM A BLACKSMITH!
:D -
Leave the stock u r work'n with long[to practise hammer control].
The hammer is more important ,get a ball pein 1-2 lbs.
when your hammer control is how ya like it get a wet rag, then practise some more.
Tongs are like women; all are fine BUT what job R they gonna do? :) -
A front porch gargoyle I can digg it !
OK I know that's kind'a 70's ,but u go w/ what ya know. B) -
Thank you very much!
I needed that info . -
The cold anvil is taking your heat;try to leave a gap between hits.
You may want to preheat the nail header[black heat]to save heat also.
Hope this helps. -
I aspire to be an over educated equine, but fined myself humbled.
OH nice metal thingy. -
Use an old or new wheelbarrow .
Cut a hole in the bottom or side[for a side draft forge]. Then put in pipe & cover w/sand or clay.
Hope this helps! -
Oh! U POOR THING!
Send that ugly thing to Hattiesburg MS. I'll hide it 4 u!
I do know it's the kind I'd use.
GOOD LUCK! -
What's your location ?
Some one here might be in your area & would like to make a trade for some spikes. ;) -
I hear ya,but that anvil beats the one you didn't have.
Have a good one! -
Good score !
O 1 doesn't make a good long blade ;from what I"ve read.
I've also got a few blades marked 01 & have been wanting to try them out. -
It's possible to lose dollars while pinching pennies;the same concept also applies to time.If you invest in good gear it will pay off in time & money saved later.
When planning your set up don't forget about your comfort.[do you want to vertually stand on your head every time you check a heat?]
A long pipe w/holes [along the length] under a bed of hot coals is great for temper'n long blades.
The forgeing is done 1 section at a time .I know I just hit a few high spots[i type like a troglodyte]
I hope this helps. -
Would that be an English Pattern mastiff puppy made in the USA ?
Well he's got a head like an anvil! :D -
I spent my anvil money on an English mastiff puppy.
Forgive me father for I have sinned ! -
Looks good.
I also have a china anvil ,which makes me forge backwards ,but never upsidedown. :D

A metal garbage can packed w/dirt or sand will work.
Fill till the height is right then cut away the excess can.
