  1. have used old motor oil to both weather and preserve word. might try that on a sample to see if gets the effect you want.
  2. body and fan are sheet metal, axels look to be stainless, and gears are plastic.
  3. yeah its probably about 35-40 years old nuclear scare era. and jut to be clear 4.95 on ebay. and he didnt over charge for shipping.
  4. thats gonna be some serious heavy steel. How experienced are you with working iron?
  5. ITs not traditional but it does rather well. There is a click/catch in a gear somewhere that I need to figure out but other than that it puts out some air. I am planning on doing three things to it. Mounting it so it stays put, putting a piece of plywood in the openning with a hold drilled in it to attatch to my forge, and eventually making a counterweighted handle to make truning a little easier. the metal part of the existing handle is about 5 inches long for scale. I got it for $4.95 off of ebay.
  6. you cant unless you have the carbon immulsion and know how to do case hardenning. you cant harden mild steel because there isnt enough carbon.
  7. I for the life of me am unable to locate an actual forge blower. I have the hair dryer thing and all but would like to go non-electric. Does anyone have a hand powered alternative they could share?

I could get you brass shavings, but then you have to be able to cast it. Not the easiest thing for the inexperienced. speedy metals looks like an affordable option.
  9. Hey Guys, I have read several places that Grainger sells some sort of hand crank blower. I cannot find anything resembling one. Does anyone have a link or know "Exactly" what they call them? Thanks
  10. does anyone have an opinion of CLR or Lime Away as a rust and forge scale remover? I know they arent as cheap as the ol vinegar method but other than that? lemme know.
  11. I hate to promote walmart but they and lowes/home depot sell hardwood lump coal for a little less than $1.00 a pound. which has got to be cheaper than what you are spending on propane.
