May 20May 20 hello again everyone, I was asking about fly pressed last time I was on here (I finally got one) and now I need help to fix the press rotating quite slowly. I plan to clean and recoil/lubricate the acme screw, as well as adjust the guides for the ram, any other tips anyone has would be great. the press is a wagner no1 (it's more than 1 ton press force) and I cannot find any info on it so any help would be great. thanks everyone in advance!!
May 20May 20 If the ram slowly descends when you release the flywheel, it’s probably working as it should. If not, I’d first try applying some light oil to the threads at the top of the screw box and see if that loosens things up. If not, apart from the guides, check the connection between the ram and the end of the screw. Mine has something like a ball joint held by a split collar that threads into the top of the ram — this sometimes requires adjustment or lubrication. Of course, you might want to disassemble and clean even if a little oil loosens it up. And that’s mandatory if there’s grit in the threads.
May 20May 20 I'd recommend careful disassembly, cleaning, relubrication, and reassembly, both to get rid of any grit that might be in there and also to get some good new grease in there that's not dried out and stiffened.
May 21May 21 Author I'll give it a proper clean and regrease over the weekend thanks guys, realised my ram was being held in place by the guides too much which i fixed this morning.
