  1. I'll give it a proper clean and regrease over the weekend thanks guys, realised my ram was being held in place by the guides too much which i fixed this morning.
  2. hello again everyone, I was asking about fly pressed last time I was on here (I finally got one) and now I need help to fix the press rotating quite slowly. I plan to clean and recoil/lubricate the acme screw, as well as adjust the guides for the ram, any other tips anyone has would be great. the press is a wagner no1 (it's more than 1 ton press force) and I cannot find any info on it so any help would be great. thanks everyone in advance!!
  3. Yeah I've seen the tire hammer and it would work with an engine I'm pretty sure, but it would have a running cost compared to a treadle hammer. It would also cost more to make from a quick estimate. That said they are for different things so eventually having both would be good. I'll do some research into the Appalachian hammers I've never seen those, thank you!

I'll try that, thanks, they're pretty rare in aus so worth a shot even if he doesn't see it
  5. I know they are different tools with different uses, but in terms of practicality to build would a stationary engine work to build a power hammer? A treadle hammer would act as a much more accurate striker, and it's much easier to build with very good plans, (clay spencer of course) but a power hammer does have a big advantage in doing some heavier forging. is there any power hammer plans which use a stationary engine anywhere or any advice anyone can offer for making one myself? Electric motors here are fairly expensive and I don't have access to power where the hammer would be, hence the engine. Any tips or ideas would be great thank you.

It's been a while since this was posted but would you consider selling any of these?
  7. Yeah I ended up finding that in my research, would it be possible to turn a kick press into a fly press? Some have very similar style frames and I wonder if the "kick" system could be entirely removed and the body refitted with the threading of a fly press.
  8. Hello all, I've recently been thinking about buying a fly press, but in aus they're pretty expensive usually. Could I feasibly convert an old kick press into a sort of fly press? They are similarly shaped heavy stands but it isn't something I've seen anywhere so I doubt it's a great idea. Any advice would be appreciated
