July 4, 2025Jul 4 I will be going to a class to build a Clay Spencer tire hammer. My smithy has a stone floor, so I want to pour a slab before the class. Estimated weight is 1000#. Does anybody know how deep I need to pour? Thanks
July 4, 2025Jul 4 It depends more on the soils under the slab than the slab itself. Jennifer Owner / Master of JPL Services and I went into foundations in serious detail while she was doing the grade and base for her Learning Center. It should be in the Archives. Give it a read or two and I'll be happy to answer questions but I'm not going to write it all out again for someone who hasn't done the basic reading for themselves. Frosty The Lucky.
July 5, 2025Jul 5 Good Morning, I would start out with not too thick. I have a 8" slab with a 14" block on top, for my 110lbs Kuhn. I put plastic pipes sideways in the 8" slab so I can move it anywhere I wish, including onto my Flat Deck. I can shove axles and wheels into the plastic. Don't worry about making it stationary. It won't hit so hard as to break the Concrete. Start simple. First make the Hammer!! Neil
