Chris P Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Anyone know the max temperature rating of regular red brick that is typically used in fireplace construction? Quote
Black Maple Forge Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I am not sure of exact temperature, but I use fireplace bricks in parts of my forge, and it gets red hot, but doesn't usually seem to cause any damage:D... Quote
ThomasPowers Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 All the fireplaces I have seen/owned use a yellow firebrick in the inside for the firplace; the outside just use regular brick as it doesn't get that hot. Quote
welder19 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Common red brick will melt but more importantly is they will spall if not dried very slowly, and will absorb moisture between uses, go to a fireplace/woodstove store and just buy firebrick to use where there will be direct heat. welder19 Quote
Chris P Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 Interesting, I have never seen any other kind of brick in a fire place other than the typical red. I was actually thinking of using the brick between the fire pot and a wood stand that I was considering making for my drum brake forge, but I was curious if red brick would work on its own. I guess that rules out that idea. Thanks all for the replies . Quote
