June 21, 20241 yr I recently acquired a Hay-Budden anvil and are curious what its age and value might be and anything else to know. Attaching photos TIA
June 21, 20241 yr Welcome aboard from 7500' in SE Wyoming. Glad to have you. It would help if you would put your general location in your profile. This is a world wide forum and we don't know if you are in Siberia, Tanznia, or the Solomon Islands. Anvil value can vary a lot depending on location. That is a very nice anvil and will serve you and your grandchildren's grandchildren if it is not abused. How heavy is it? I'm going to guess in the 150-200 pound range. I going to guesstimate that if you are in the USA you could get $4-6/pound for it, maybe a bit more. Anvils in the west are less common and are somewhat more expensive than they are back east. June 21, 20241 yr If the chart I found is right the serial # puts it at 1894. Weight on side looks like 168
June 21, 20241 yr Appears to be a horseshoers anvil that somebody ground the clip horn off of. All in all it looks like a nice one. It's had a pretty easy life so far. George
June 22, 20241 yr Yep, if the ring and rebound is good you have not only a nice one but I would say an outstanding one. The 2 pritchel holes were common on Farrier Pattern anvils also. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
July 1, 20241 yr Figured I could latch onto this thread. I've never been able to figure out much about my anvil, other than general type. Sides are pretty corroded and there's just a trace of remaining lettering on one side. Have no idea how old it is, it's about 90lbs, I got it for $90.00 about 20 years ago from an old barn in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Isn't really that important, more a curiosity. Has served me well.
