Chipped my anvil?

Recommended Posts

Isn't much , 1/4” x 1/16” or so and don't know how it happened. I was setting down some rr spikes on that edge but don't recall missing.

Anvil seems very hard. It skates my 55 testing file nearly everywhere and even the 60 in some places near the hardy hole. Depth of hardness is about 1/4” based on my crude testing years ago which you can see in the picture. Anything above the third punch mark will ruin your punch.

New biggie really just thought it odd and wanted to share.  Bought new 5 years ago Kanca 165lbs.

It's hard to tell in the pic but it looks like that spot has less radius than farther to the right in the pic. Maybe you need to put a little larger radius on it. The chip looks a lot like the ones in my Soderfors edges and it has a scary hard face. Moves metal really REAY well though.

Hi Frosty, yes it is right at the end of my radius.

When I first got it, I radiused it a little at a time starting up near the horn , soon found out that I needed the radius at times when I had a tool in the square hole so I moved my main radius to the middle.

I have left the square horn mostly sharp and only recently added some radius to the end.
