Wayne
Doing medieval forging demos, one of the things I miss is a vice. Get into the 1500,s and they start turning up in illustrations but prior to that I have drawn a blank. Does anyone have any illustrationsof early vices or references to them? Truman
Sorry to go off topic, but Joseph, can you tell anything about that second print? Who did it? When and where? Thanks.
Frosty
Use wedges and stops for a vise. Wedges go back to the paleolithic so you shouldn't have too much trouble justifying one as a vise. Frosty

rustyshackleford
Just another source for old images, this ones has a few. I notice that no vice appears in any Hammers, music and scales Also: interestingly, a strikingly similar image appears on this site, sans vice: Notice how small the stake is: From the Holkham Bible Picture Book.
