Kelly R
Just a quick question. I’m playing around making railroad spike knives for practicing hammer control and the handle portion is about right for my hand. But I was thinking about adding a twist, but wasn’t sure if I would lose any length by adding the twist?
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
You won't loose enough length to notice it, unless you are twisting several pieces together. This thread covers most of that. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/39116-how-to-calculate-loss-of-length-with-twist/
Kelly R
Thank you for the info. I’ll check it out
Frosty
Not on solid unidimensional (square / round) bar. The only shortening I've ever measured is the result of the stock "corkscrewing", once it's straightened out the length is still there. Twisting bundles, shapes, etc. will shorten. Frosty The Lucky.
