ThomasPowers
Champion power hammers use 90 degree dies and so are worked from the sides. Mine have leaf spring linkages though not the LG coil spring. BTW my 25# LG came from Merino Colorado and arrived there in 1915; been at least 25 years since it was sneaked into NM though... As for 4"x4"x8" stock some farm tractors use stock like that on their implements. I measured one in La Union NM that was just sitting half buried along a fence row. Unfortunately the owner died before I could ask him about it. Might ask around an implement dealer, especially around a place where they run to large fields and big tractors. (As for HP, our 1966 volkswagon beetle, 1300 model, was 50 BHP and I would expect newer ones to be higher! 2008 rabbit was 170 hp for example.) Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
My Star 30 pounder also uses maybe 70-80 degree side worked dies.
FlatLiner
That's an awesome little power hammer build.
