building a 2nd bigger hotter forge

right now i have an ebay forge thats square and open at both sides its lined with 1in thick wool thats been rigidized and had refractory i bought off here put on the wool and it just doesnt get as hot as id like and its a bit shorter then id like i want a 2 burner closed on 1 end ive seen the firebrick forges and for ease of assembly really wanted to make one but will it get hot enough to forge weld damascus ?

Depends on the definition of "better". Insulating fire bricks use less gas and come up to temp faster but are more friable. Hard firebrick take more time and gas to come up to temps but are less friable. Many types of insulating firebricks may be less flux resistant. Some types of hard firebricks are quite flux resistant. So which is "better"?

Have you visited the large blacksmith shop in Rowe New Mexico yet? It's a bit over an hour on I-25 from Las Vegas New Mexico!
