Tom McAvoy
I have a Champion #201 it's in good shape but I can't get the horizontal drive shaft or the vertical shaft to turn. The worm drive in the photo of the horizontal shaft turns but it doesn't engage any gears. I attached some pictures. I'd any appreciate any advice on this beautiful old tool. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome aboard... I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It is full of tips some of which will help in staying off the moderators radar. The first thing I would do is soak all moving parts in a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid, paying close attention to all the oiling holes. Tom McAvoy
With more lubricant and some more muscle I was able to get everything moving and even drilled a hole in a 2x4, Thanks!
Frosty
Ayup, that's a common thing for old blacksmithing machinery that's been sitting idle very long. Just a couple drops of oil in the oiler ports every few days or once a week and give it a turn every time you walk past and it'll start working smoothly for you in no time. Frosty The Lucky.
