July 23, 200817 yr what is an effective etchant to etch graphite? i wan to remove the graphite from substrates. if any, what would be useful for etching graphite? thanks.....
April 21, 200917 yr Glad you delurked Hungz. I can't help you with a graphite etchant, no idea. If you'll click "User CP" at the top of the page and edit your profile to show your location it can make a big difference. If local folk know you're there they can invite you to get togethers, tip you to tool deals and offer hands on help. Frosty
April 21, 200917 yr Graphite is dissolves on liquid iron:D. Nothing else is listed in the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. Mechanical removal with a sandblaster, or bead blaster, may be your best choice.
April 22, 200917 yr I don't know much about etching anything, but I am going to ask any way.... why would you want to etch graphite? and what is it on? what is it you are doing that you want/need to etch graphite? If this is a dumb question please ignore, but this idea is fascinating to me. First time I have seen any reference to graphite outside of crucibles or pencils or a lube or nuclear reactor.
April 22, 200917 yr it this a graphite handle? CBrann this is my dumb question. or there is no dumb questions?
April 23, 200917 yr Sand or media blasting through rubber stencils. Waterjet cutting. EDM. Electrolytic etching. Mechanical removal. Chemical dissolving? But why? Why would one need to etch amorphous carbon? Warren
