October 6, 20196 yr Hi guys, I recently acquire a buffalo forge post drill as a restoration project. All the gears and such are in good condition only the drill shaft doesnt want to rotate, what do you guys suggest is the best thing i can do to knock it loose without breaking the cast frame? October 6, 20196 yr Good Morning, Put it in a tank/container of Diesel fuel. Keep a lid on to curtail evaporation. Leave is soak for a few days before trying to move the shaft. There are other penetrating fluids, but they are VERY MUCH a fire hazard. Neil
October 6, 20196 yr Do you have a product called Kroil over there? I have used it to loosen a few stubborn things in the past. When I have something that needs a penetrant, I spray some Kroil on it every day or 2 for as many times as it requires until it moves easily, I do not force it. Remove the excess when you take it apart.
October 6, 20196 yr If you can't get Kroil a 50/50 mix of acetone and dexron automatic transmission fluid will work just as well. Like maple smith said apply the mix and let it sit for a few days keeping it moist then gently try & move it back & forth but don't hammer or force it.
