pnut
What does the inside of the firepot look like? You could probably put some mesh for plaster or concrete over the bottom and put clay soil on top of the mesh. You will probably need to put clay in it anyway so you can make it smaller. A rim is a pretty big firepot that's gonna be fuel hungry. Look up what a ducks nest firepot is. I think that is what most folks do to forges made from rims. Good luck, pnut
Charles R. Stevens
Acualy if you mount that hunk of rail vertically and forge on the 1-1/2”x3” end it will make a serviceable anvil. cast iron flora drain greats make serviceable grates for those old forges, tho a piece of 1/2” bent into Ann exaggerated “S” work well. Just squish the “s” so it is an “O” with a slash across it. Takes a long time to burn up 1/2”
