When I went to the Appalachian center for the arts for a class with Jay Burnham Kidwell, we found a graphic that said,
DO NOT SET SELF ON FIRE" and it had a little guy running around on fire. I think I like that for my motto!
Jay said he was thinking of putting it on a t-shirt, when I went to SOFA Quadstate, some one had one on already.

"I fell in love with the forge, I can't get the ring of the anvi. out of my ears, or the smell of iron off my hands, I love it and wouldin't have it any other way!"

i came up with this one long before i ever started smithing. i loved watching them work. when i became a full-time smith i adopted it as my personal saying!

Son

rule 6 of my master's rules of apprenticeship is my shop motto ( and Im tooling it onto the bib of my apron in latin heh)
#6 If your going to be dumb you better be tough.

when i was a kid and my grandpa and me would be working cattle he would always say "slow down, we're in a hurry". So slow and right beats fast and wrong every time.
