Bill saunders
I just bought my first anvil yesterday. But I am having a hard time finding information on it. I took a wire brush to it but didn't have alot of time to clean it up. Any help would be appreciated
ThomasPowers
Did you check in Anvils in America?
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Some info no them in this thread. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/37402-anvil-reviews-by-name-or-brand/ Or check out some of the others. https://www.google.com/search?q=sanderson+brothers+vulcan+works+sheffield+site:www.iforgeiron.com&client=firefox-b-1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiqocTRpuvdAhVDKH0KHUQRBm0QrQIoAjAAegQICRAK&biw=1138&bih=511&dpr=1.
Bill saunders
Thomas powers I have not checked or do I own a copy of anvils in America. I figured with it being marked Sheffield (England) it wouldn't be in there. I have found that anvils made in Sheffield England at that era. Was kinda muddy waters. People would have others make anvils and have there name put on it instead of for say mousehole. I have found references to Sanderson Brothers but no real information. 11 minutes ago, Irondragon Forge & Clay said: Some info no them in this thread. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/37402-anvil-reviews-by-name-or-brand/ Or check out some of the others. https://www.google.com/search?q=sanderson+brothers+vulcan+works+sheffield+site:www.iforgeiron.com&client=firefox-b-1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiqocTRpuvdAhVDKH0KHUQRBm0QrQIoAjAAegQICRAK&biw=1138&bih=511&dpr=1.2 Thank you, there just is not allowed out there about Sanderson Brothers anvils. I was more curious if mousehole made it, because it looks like one. Really I'm just going to enjoy using a real Anvil instead of my forklift Fork that I have been using. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Mousehole did not make it. It was made by Vulcan Works in Sheffield England (long out of business).
ThomasPowers
Only 67 pages about English anvils in Anvils in America; because there were a lot of anvils exported from England to America. But you were right that there was not much about the Vulcan works anvils.

I was hoping for an easy answer but I don't think I will be able to find one. 23 hours ago, ThomasPowers said: Only 67 pages about English anvils in Anvils in America; because there were a lot of anvils exported from England to America. Thank you Thomas powers, I may have to order one of those books
ThomasPowers
The picture you were sent is from Anvils in America. Think of it this way if you were writing a book called "Cars in America in the 1970's" would you not include Volkswagens, Saabs, Datsuns, Toyotas, etc just because they were made outside the USA? Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Back in the day many Mousehole workers went on to start their own foundries, making anvils like the one's they learned to make while employed there.

BTW... when quoting it's best not to include pictures or very long text. I'm sure one of the moderators will get on you, but don't take it personal. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/53040-the-quote-feature/
