Brian C.
Coal Forge, I know that I am overlooking the obvious, but could you give a little more info or photos on how you did the clamp? How is the tubing positioned before striking? Thanks for bearing with me. :?
irnsrgn
Brian if you look closer at the picture you will notice the corner of the sq tube are in line with the rod.
Glenn
BP-0148 Clayton Clamp The clamp is formed in one heat. The tubing is heated and the cold rod is pushed down into the tubing collapsing and pushing out one opposite set of sides, while pulling the other opposite set in. The tubing side walls that are pulled in, mush over and hold the rod. When it cools, it holds fast. The same thing happens at the same time to the other rod. The key is the top sides being pushed out on the top side rod, are the sides being pushed in on the bottom side rod.
Strine
The same can be done with round tubing as well, if you don't like the line of the square tubing. It's a surprisingly strong joint. I bet it's perfect too for joining the cross members of a kite frame but in PVC not steel. Weeee......
