Don A
Here's a set of rods and hold-backs I made for my wife: I forged everything from 1/2" round. All the scrolls are free-hand; just a hammer and a few tweaks with the scrolling pliers. The main rods are 1/2" copper pipe, primed and painted black. The forged ends slide in and can be adjusted several inches either way. I think I kinda go carried away with the complexity of the scrolls. In hind sight, I think something a bit simpler would have been more pleasing to the eye. But, she likes 'em, so everybody's happy. She made the curtains, by the way. Don A
Here's a couple close-ups of the pieces: These are the ones I used the wax ring / linseed / turpentine mix on. It made for a nice finish. Don
chyancarrek
Nice Work Don! I like the hold-back idea. My free hand scrolls always come out looking like something out of a Tim Burton movie . . .
larrynjr
Those are some great looking curtain rods Don, I've got my step daughter getting married this summer and I've been looking for a project as a wedding gift. Something like those would be very nice. IF I can do half as well as you have done!
Frosty
Very nice Don! You'll forgive me if I don't show these to my wife? Frosty
Don A
Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. You'll forgive me if I don't show these to my wife? That might be wise. On the plus side, when you're working for your wife, you have a standing excuse to stay in the shop.On the down side, you have no choice but to stay in the shop. I started these before Valentines Day as a gift... I installed them 2 weeks ago. I'm still seeing those scrolls in my sleep. I told her that if I billed for my time, she would owe me roughly $25,000. She's worth it, though. Don
