pig iron
I love how a lot of people say "don't waste your money on that junk" and then advise them to buy a $100 welder at Harbor Freight to make a forge.
Buzzkill
Who advises that? In this thread the suggestions were for getting tools to build a forge without the need for a welder and/or buying quality used tools that will likely outlast new HF tools. I own several welding machines and spent most of my career as a certified welder. Never used welding to build heating equipment and would never advice anyone else to do so.
