Featured Replies

Well I ended up getting this old 7" swivel jaw bench vise today at a small local on line auction for $211.00  its at least 200 lbs. and 31" long closed and 13" tall.. its a monster looking vise in person.. it has no makers mark that can be seen...  G-ManBart  told me it looks like a Prentiss vise.. thanks for all the info Bart !!

Greetings JT,

Are you aware that by.pulling the pin it will allow the rear jaw to pivot.  A real handy feature. Yep looks like a Prentiss.

Look on the forward most plane of the vise under the screw and handle.  It should read "P V CO" and this would make it a Prentiss Vice Company swiveling rear jaw machinist's vise.   Otherwise known as a self-adjusting rear jaw vise.

In my research, I've only seen the unique profile of the vise jaws ("U" shaped, arranged horizontally) on a Prentiss vise.  There are no visible markings on my vise other that unreserved the screw handle.
