lawnmower blades

Featured Replies

I was going through my scrap pile and found a large amount of lawnmower blades. Don't know where they came from but there are plenty! already made a stool out of some, good for elevating the feet or reaching the top shelves, but was wondering if any of you had any other ideas of uses for them? They seem to run 24 x 2 inches.

Knives and short swords come to mind. Any thinnish tempered steel tool you might be lacking.

I've made sevral small chief knives(choppers) and machetes. as machetes the blades don't bend as the store bought ones do...they work just fine withe mounting holes left in

Thanks larrynjr and jimbob, what type of steel are they made of for heat treating?

do a spark test as the cheaper ones are low carbon the higher end are carbon tool steel

Flint strikers, or Fire steels as some folks call them.

A hot cut? you know, take two blades attacht them to swivel with the bottom blade forged welded to a piece of square stock to fit inteh hardie? Kinda reminds me of those old fashioned paper slicers but for metal. That's if you haven;t already beat me to that idea :-P
