December 5, 20169 yr Very nice! Looks like maybe a Hay Budden or an Arm and Hammer. Could be a Trenton or something else.
December 5, 20169 yr What does the base look like, are there any stampings on the front foot (below the horn)?

December 6, 20169 yr Nope; you could have a top make anvil that was dead soft due to a shop fire and so be worse off than a lower make anvil with the original heat treat. Wire brush the face and then do the ball bearing test and see. I'm a little concerned about how it looks.
December 6, 20169 yr To me, it looks like it was painted black at some point, and most of it is just rubbed off. Definitely do a rebound test for safe measure, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Even if it was in a shop fire, it would take a lot of heat to take away the temper.
December 6, 20169 yr yeh c-1, it would take a lot off heat... like a shop fire. if you ask one of the x-firemen on the forum i'm sure they will tell you that a burning building give of plenty of heat.
