My grandfather found this anvil i have not yet put eyes on due to him living out of state but i would like to try and ID it if anyone could help that would be helpful

Very nice! Looks like maybe a Hay Budden or an Arm and Hammer. Could be a Trenton or something else.

What does the base look like, are there any stampings on the front foot (below the horn)?

I'm right. As long as that's an anvil...

Nope; you could have a top make anvil that was dead soft due to a shop fire and so be worse off than a lower make anvil with the original heat treat.  Wire brush the face and then do the ball bearing test and see.  I'm a little concerned about how it looks.

To me, it looks like it was painted black at some point, and most of it is just rubbed off. Definitely do a rebound test for safe measure, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Even if it was in a shop fire, it would take a lot of heat to take away the temper.

yeh c-1, it would take a lot off heat... like a shop fire. <_<:P if you ask one of the x-firemen on the forum i'm sure they will tell you that a burning building give of plenty of heat.
