Sam Salvati
6 new ones, all from 1084, they forge up in about no more than 20 minutes, i make them up to get used to grinding forged peices. All are in the process of being flat ground, making friends with the platen:D. Comments and suggestions welcome.

markb
good work, I like the bottom one.. Straight razor for Big Foot?:o
Sam Salvati
Thanks guys! Mark, I am going to make that one just like a straight razor, with a steel frame, and a second pin at the top so the blade will lock open like a friction folder, should be pretty cool:D. Darren Ellis
All look great! I especially like the idea of the friction folder straight razor. -Darren
Sam Salvati
Thanks Darren, I always liked how cool the blades looked on straight razors, and always wanted one that could be used like a regular knife. Slight difference with mine is it is flat ground instead of hollow (for a bit of toughness), but it will not have a secondary edge. Welcome by the way! steveh
what do you like using for the handle materials?
Sam Salvati
For that razor, I will use steel. I usually use whatever i can get my hands on, but my very most personal favorite wood is Amboyna and could I afford and the oppurtunity was open I would use it exclusively. I like the synthetic stuff micarta and that a little bit too.

MLMartin
hey sam do you forge the beveled edge any or simply grind the entire thing to shape
Sam Salvati
I forge the bevels, spine, taper, entire outline. I bring my edges down usually to less than 1/8th of an inch thick, sometimes thinner.
MLMartin
thats great, i do the same, none of my knifes have come to look quight as good as yours though. i definetly like knifes that are forged to shape as apposed to guys that just forge out a big flat patty and then grind like crazy until they have the shape they want. i am particularly fond of knives that have never seen a electric tool
Sam Salvati
I haven't done a complete hammer finish knife in along time. Got another seax in the works, hammer finish spine and 1/2 lower bevel, with the rest polished with white oack handles coming up soon. Here are a few other makers who make knives with the straight razor design....though these are all stock removal:Graham Knives - Makers of Custom Handmade KnivesRay Rogers Handcrafted Knives:Pictures of the Folders I Make I thought you might find those interesting if you hadn't seen them before. -Darren
