Q Fausey
A lot of my full tang knife handles have small areas where the wood moves off of the tang leaving a small gap I'm just useing brass pins and peening them over after the clamps are taken off any suggestions? Thanks
SLAG
Wood is a dynamic substance and shrinks and expands due to many factors .Resin impregnated handles should not move. The process requires a vacuum set-up, is intricate, & requires knowledge & experience. Look up the subject in Mr. Steven Sells book. He advocates sending the knife out to an experienced shop. And I concur with that idea. Regards, SLAG.
ThomasPowers
Wood moves; it has been reported that the wood in furniture found in King Tut's tomb with over 2000 years of air drying still changes with changes in humidity. As SLAG mentions the only way to totally prevent it is to treat the wood so that it can't take up or let go of moisture. (well besides keeping it in a totally uniform environment...)
