bustedknuckles
Can anyone give me an idea of what a 100 pound british anvil is worth, if it is in decent (not perfect, but decent shape, used?
Ridgewayforge
60,000,000 Squtles. It very much depends on place, how many there are locally, going rate, condition, how hot the market is, etc. 100lb british anvil in Frederick Maryland will be listed at 3-400 USD$, but I bought my 75lber for $2/lb from Baltimore. Like I say, context is key.
Fatfudd
Can anyone tell me how much my american car is worth, its blue and in OK not decent shape?
EJRailRoadTrack
Could we get pictures? Brand? Year? SOMETHING. As Fatfudd said we have NOTHING to work off here. It's also going to depend where you are. Do people want anvils to use or look at? Are they rare in your area? It's like trying to appraise a house while just knowing what color it is. -EJ
bustedknuckles
OK, fine. Although the post above was most helpful, in suggesting $2 to $4 per pound, here is a pic for you anvil porn lovers: Made by Brooks, England, 51 kilos in weight. One horn, one square hole, one round hole. I recon $350 CDN. Not much demand in these parts (near Kingston, Ontario, Canada)
EJRailRoadTrack
Brooks isn't I brand I know, But it looks to be in very good condition. The square hole is called the hardy (or hardie) hole. It is used for tools that help a blacksmith forge iron. The round hole is for punches when punching metal and for putting what are called holdfasts in place that hold steel. 3 dollars a pound would be a good price for the anvil. -EJ
Foundryman
For what it's worth, brooks anvils of that size are highly desirable in the UK at the moment, going for well above the price of the average used anvil on the market. Though that may not be 100% relevant to where you are, be aware that it's a high quality anvil and should command a price towards the higher end of the market. Fatfudd
Brooks are cast steel and for the most part very well made, there have been a few that were somewhat soft but mostly they compare to the very best quality anvils around. I just purchase one for our ABANA affiliate demo anvil and it has a 95% rebound.
Dan P.
For the record, I had a JB that was a pure lemon. Like swiss cheese with the flaws.
