October 10, 201510 yr Author I like that idea even more. Free, and I get to hit a piece of metal with another piece of metal while it's resting on a big piece of metal. Sounds like fun!
October 10, 201510 yr If your tool list is Avil, hammer, fire and stock then set the mark on the sharpest edge of the anvil. If you're looking to mark the center of the spring then balance the stock on the end of the horn and strike. Reverse the stock to compensate for the taper of the horn and hit it again. Reverse, NOT flip it over. Now with the center of the spring section marked lengthen the spring by working back up the taper of the horn, reverse every once every step. It'll stay centered on balance, if it tips strike more to the low side.Frosty The Lucky.
