ThomasPowers
What will you be burning? How often? How long? Will it be rained on? will you have drains in it?
rider666
It will have drains, it will be raining on it. It will be burning wood like pine etc. i am building it for one irish pub for the outside so it will be burning quite alot. but only for 2-3 months per year, and maybe 2-3times a weak. ThomasPowers
in plain steel it will rust out over time as water and ashes are a corrosive mixture.
rider666
will it last 3 seasons?
ThomasPowers
Depends. I made a firebox for a Renaissance Ship replica out of 9.5 mm steel and it lasted in a wet environment more than 3 years but less than 10; low usage but poor care taken of it. ThomasPowers
If they don't trap water/ash against the metal
njanvilman
You might have more of a problem with the metal warping from the heat. Since you are repurposing old steel, just build it and see what happens. Consider it a learning curve...if it works for three years, great. If not, you will know what to do different for the replacement.
