Forging a Ram's Head On The End Of A RR Spike

Featured Replies

This ia my method of putting a Ram's head on a spike for knives or pokers or such... Enjoy and comment!

Interesting video, nice work.  You just have to get that vise bolted down better.  There is a lot of wasted energy every time the vise 'jumps'.  Also, a post vise would work better; and if you can get one mounted on a portable stand, it could be right next to your forge.  Also, I would use a needle nose pliers for forming the rams horns into their spiral.  Keep on forging.

Thanks for sharing the video. I really like to see the process went into it. Well done.

May I ask what the box hanging on the rope from the horn of the anvil is?

Thanks for the comments guys... The box hanging on the end of the anvil is what I call my Neighbor Pacifier...lol... It is just a box that I keep my angle grinder and accessories in.  It is somewhat heavy and by hanging that on a rubber glove on the horn I significantly cut down on the noise and ringing of the anvil.   Works well for now but am considering other options... just have to choose one.

Very nice! I like the use of the rail spike. You have an excellent finish there. You were very careful not to burn the horns off. Always a risk!
