  1. Thanks in was thinking something along those lines.... I'm hoping to replicate this actual sword ... strictly a wall hanger not functional
  2. Anyone know how to go about forging this type of sword blade specifically the hole near the cross gaurd.
  3. It's steel but I don't know exactly what type.
  4. Ok so I'm a little bit obsessed with the Lord of the rings and I eventually plan on forging many replicas from the films . One project I have in the works is to turn an old army surplus helmet in to a helmet of the fighting uruk hai. It seems pretty straight forward but I need help figuring out how to put a Ridge down the center of the helmet. It's a raised part that goes almost all of the way to the top of the helm. I'll post refrence pics of what I'm starting with and what i want to achieve any help would be great
  5. Yeah in the pic the one on the far right the cuts overlapped to much that's why the open section is so much bigger. I wish I had a band saw right not it's either angle grinder or hack saw..
  6. Thanks guys I use an angle grinder for the cuts and I'm still playing around with the cut lengths to get mor of a T shape
  7. Love this is the double fuller forged or ground in? I'd like to learn how to do a double fuller myself for an um comming project. On a side note. Do you ever cut gems for other people I have a lot of uncut stones that I got doing one of those " mine your own gems"
  8. So I belong to a lord of the rings collectors forum and I started a thread looking for inspiration on what I could forge from middle earth other than swords.. anyway one member posted this pic of candle sconces from the prancing pony they look pretty straightforward however does anyone know how to go about forging the round parts in the stem right below the holder for the candle?
  9. I like it I use them this way though
  10. Yeah I hate posting using my phone but I lost my camera and I only had pics on my phone. It also doesn't help I'm a big guy using a small phone lol
  11. Finally after about a year got a chance to pull out the forge, made these as gifts
  12. Im wanting an alloy thats strong but lightweight with an dark color. my intent is for mostly decorative purposes but I want something thats not brittle. Ive casted AL before thats why I started there ive considered brass as well. I found online that thete is a chemical called alumium black that is essentially gun blue for alumium gun parts Ive considered trying that and seeing the results.
  13. thanks for the replies im sorry about using the word smelt i ment melt i know that smelting involves extracting metal deposits from ore. my plan is to cast some mace heads using lost foam casting mainly for decoration not actual use. I know al alloys can be stong but id like them to look a lot darker almost like cast iron
  14. ok first of all I primarrly blacksmith so casting is a new field for me I figured since this site has a casting section someone here might have info or insight to this. Granted I know info in an actual casting site would probbly be the best to go to but The thing is the information I have found here over the years to very helpful and overall I trust you guys and your opinions. I dont know any sites other than this one for similar information and to be frank between working fulltime being in a masters program, being an assistant pastor amongst other things I really dont have freetime to spend hrs searching websites. Dont get me wrong I dont mind doing the leg work but at the moment I spend about 30 hr a week alone in homework. So I was looking for some helpful insight if maybe someone has expermented with this and i also got the idea from this site someone years ago mentioned on a post to mix copper with alumium ti make a bronze so sorry if my questuin seemed stupid. I alsi appoligize for all the typos im using a smart phone at the moment cause my labtop crashed and my hands are ti big fir this freakin small keypad lol
  15. i was wondering if there is another metal to smelt with aluminium to make it a bronze color such as copper. i know copper with a small amount of aluminium is considered a bronze but i want a mixture with a higher aluminum content.
