Jack-O-Lantern
Hey guys. I just joined the forum but I've been getting all kinds of info from you guys via google searches for a while now. I'm new to blacksmithing. I've been an artist for most of my life and decided to enter a new medium. I've been trying it in ernest for about 7 months. Its been interesting to say the least. I'd also like to add that of all the corners of the internet I've been to this place has the coolest and most helpfull people. No cynicism or smuggery. Its refreshing. Heres some stuff I've made thus far. I hope to teach and learn as much as possible. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks guys. Happy to be here. swedefiddle
Welcome, Jack Don't let the Light Out!!!! If you post your location in your Profile, there are probably some of us near you. Two heads sometimes knocking together is more gooder than one. The ritual of playing with the spike, is something everyone of us has done. Nothing to be ashamed of. The learning curve is not a straight line!! The Learning has a beginning, but has no end!! Don't try to get to the end first, it isn't there. Keep up the good playtimes (if you are smiling, it ain't work!!) :) :) Neil
Roy Ubu
Looks like you bring some feel for the medium. Not sure about the best way to hook with the art guys. There's a piece of that in us all of course, but there are fewer art guys than tool guys. I guess that makes sense and helps anyone "new" to figure out how to accomplish what has been imagined. Luck to you.
SoCal Dave
Jack: Just keep making things. Try different techniques that you see. Try to figure out how to do things with the tools at hand. As you learn from others, you will find faster and easier ways, but the process you developed initially will help you all your life. It's good to take pictures of all your work. You will see the progression of your skills through them. Welcome.
