I picked up a scythe at a the Yungaburra Markets a couple of years ago, I have finally got round to restoring it , on the tang the is a markers mark of a hose and rider with the word SHEFFIELD stamped under it. I have tried looking up Sheffield blade smiths and other tool markers but can not find this touchmark. Can anyone help ?

While I can't help you with the Maker's mark I do want to thank you for brightening my day. The subject got my attention right away, I just had to know what a Marker's mark was. Then reading past the simple typo I come to, "hose and rider."

 

Brother my head is spinning with all the potential of these straight lines! For instance, Marker's mark = Sharpy poop? I'm afraid IFI being a public forum with rules I'm going to leave Hose and Rider to the imagination.
