Elmarginalo
Doest anyone have any expierience with these? I was looking around the net for a new firepit for my forge, and I found these on http://www.oezwerk.de/epages/62230868.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62230868/Categories/%22BECMA%20Schmiedeeinrichtung%22/Schmiedefeuer_mit_Geblaese Which seem to be dirty cheap compared to other shops like "angele". which raises the question: are they worth anything or are they garbage? VaughnT
They look thin, but they should certainly work. Cast iron is a pretty durable material and .5" thickness in the wall is plenty for a decade's worth of work.
Elmarginalo
10 years is good enough for me ;-) I think I'm going to try one!
VaughnT
I'll certainly look forward to hearing your thoughts after you've worked with it for awhile. Most of the commercially-available fire pots in the US are either .5", or .750" for their "heavy duty" models. If you're just doing hobby smithing for a few hours a month, a .5" thick pot will last you a lifetime.
Elmarginalo
I'll keep you up to date. I'm a hobby smith, but I forge at least 4-5 hours a week. We'll see how it goes as I don't have the budget atm to invest in any of the high end fire pits.
Elmarginalo
Ordered this one last weekend: http://www.oezwerk.de/epages/62230868.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62230868/Products/FR28.28.160 It was delivered yesterday! extremely fast service. I didn't install it yet as I still need to break out the old one. I'm also planning on taking some pictures etc since I couldn't find any reviews of BECMA forges. This way I hope someone else might benefit from this info. So far it looks ok. Looks to be kaowool in between the different parts. At least I hope it's kaowool and not some type of foam xxxx Thickness of the pit is 1.2 cm or about 1/2 inch. So far the main things that bother me: - the bolts to attach this thing seem to be missing... which is a bit of a bummer since they mention on their website that they are included. I unwrapped it quickly to inspect it for damage since the packaging was a bit damaged. Maybe it's still in some plastic wrapping somewhere. The box was stuffed with it, they did a good job packaging it. With a bit of luck it's in there somewhere. I'll take another look tonight. - the area of the fire pit around the hole (where the ball that regulates the air fits in) seems to be thin, which worries me a little bit. I don't have enough experience with forges to know if this is normal or not... I guess we'll see. I'll snap some pictures tonight.

PaulKrzysz
looks good, how deep is it on the inside?
Elmarginalo
5.5 cm, that's a bit over 2 inches
VaughnT
Looks good. I'm surprised that it's so shallow, but it will still work.
Elmarginalo
attached the blower, and lighted it for the first time. Works way better then the previous setup, but then again, the old firepit completely broke in two and the old blower was kind of broken too... :D sorry for the mess in the pics, it's still a bit a work in progress :P
Elmarginalo
After some emailing with oezwerk, turns out the bolts are not included... They reply quickly thought and are very friendly. Does it matter what bolts I use? Can I use some random steel bolts that fit?
VaughnT
Any bolts will work. Stainless steel will last longer, but that's a relative thing.
