Viking
Someone is offering to sell this for very little. Anyone heard of turning a fireplace into a forge? I have not seen it in person, but it seems like its workable. Or maybe i am very out of line in my thought process? Thanks for comments and suggestions. Charles R. Stevens
A forge is a fire place. The question is how much do you need to modify it to make it contain a deap enugh bed of coals, provide an air blast and space to move stock in and out of the fire. It would appear that you could use it as the foundation to build a nice forge.obviusly lose the doores...
VaughnT
The sheet metal is going to be very thin on the bottom so you'll need to insulate it from the coals... or expect it to burn through in a few minutes. Personally, I'd look at making that into a side-blast forge with a few inches of dirt in the bottom. Cut a hole in the back wall so you can pass through longer pieces and open up the chimney so it's at least 10". Other than that, I don't see any issues.
