January 11, 201412 yr This anvil is located in a local trade post. It may be a Peter Wright. the face looks pretty had. The guy wants 500. I want to counter with knowledge to see I fi can do better or if it is even worth it. Thanks for all the help.
January 11, 201412 yr Depending on location and how bad you want a a anvil. To be honest I personally feel that's a bit high in price. The anvil should weigh in the neighborhood of 107#. At that price I'd be looking at buying a new anvil. This anvil looks to be in decent shape but, not $5 a pound. Just my oppion.
January 11, 201412 yr Author true on the new one. Does it look like a peter wright? what would be a fair offer?
January 11, 201412 yr 500 peso's a steal! 500 US$ is a crime against the buyer, 500 Euro's even worse! What's the going rate where you are we can't guess cause WE DON'T KNOW YOUR LOCATION And please tell the seller that that paint job takes off from the price asw it may hide flaws---like buying a used car with a new paintjob, you often assume it's been in a wreck and fixed...
January 12, 201412 yr Author brother im in The great Country of Texas. same as you. I was thinking about hitting the farm auctions. I was going to insult him with a hundred dollar offer.
January 12, 201412 yr A new anvil will probably cost around five dollars a pound then add shipping. Stovestoker the edges on that Peter Wright are toast. Your going to want those edges to be clean. Five hundred dollars for that anvil is asking fare to much. Scrap, it is worth 42 dollars. As an addition to your collection, maybe a buck a pound. As with most things don't let your desire to own that anvil overwhelm you sensibility. JMOSmiley
January 12, 201412 yr Author Thanks all. I am going to insult him and then pass if he doesn't take the offer. I'll keep banging on my RR track for now.
January 12, 201412 yr Howdy from East TEXAS!! and welcome to IFI! Pass on it and no need to insult the guy, just educate him as most antique dealers like to learn. Besides, he may have a really good one some day and will remember you. What part of TEXAS are ya in?
January 12, 201412 yr Author Howdy back at yah Thomas, I'm in Abilene. I dint literally insult him. But I did pass on the info and to why I could only offer him a hundred. He did lower his price to 350. I.told him my offer still stood if he didn't get any takers.
January 12, 201412 yr $200 would be fair, but most folks are not in business to be fair these days. They are following the old advise "Charge all that the market will bear." A bigger sucker with deeper pockets may come along any day now, and park that old girl in the middle of a flower bed, 'cuz she is already painted.
