January 4, 201412 yr So I finished my homemade forge and burner and put it all together. Its a ron reil style burner. I attached burner to propane tank with a 10' propane hose (the kind without a regulator) from lowes. I fired it up with no problem but the gauge read no pressure. It would only get my horseshoe barstock (3/8x7/8) orange and that takes a little bit. So I got a 5' hose and tried that... same story. Then I took the hose out of the system and with the help of some blocking hooked the tank strait to the burner. I lit it up and bingo I had all the pressure I could a want. Now the barstock will get yellow. Ive tried tried tweaking and adjusting everything I can think of with no luck so im needing some help. Thanks in advance!
January 4, 201412 yr Luck wont help,,you need an adjustable pressure regulator,,farrier suppliers have the right ones as well as mail order place like them...
January 4, 201412 yr Is the hose open or is there an obstruction in the hose somewhere? And what Rich said.

I'm betting the one if not both end connectors have very tiny orifices. BBQs don't need the volume of gas that a forge requires. Once you have the proper hose, you will certainly want a regulator. Please don't use the forge as you have pictured. You have a time bomb there. If it leaks propane is heavier than air and will pour right down in the path of ignition.
January 5, 201412 yr Author I appreciate all the suggestions. Out of 5 stores all are eaither out of stock or dont carry them so I ordered a regulator on ebay. Ill let yall know if that does the trick. I dont/wont use it as pictured. It was stricktly for photographic evidence. :) Thanks again, Daniel
January 5, 201412 yr Author Oh... and to Glenn, no the hose wssnt clogged. Im kinda surprised because thats the one thing I didnt check.:)
January 8, 201412 yr So, Daniel, what parts did you end up replacing- just the guage? The guage prevented the forge from working or did you get a guage/refgulator combo? Dave
January 8, 201412 yr Author I left every thing as is except the old propane bottle to hose connector. I took that out and replaced it with a 0-30psi regulator. Its amazing what a little pressure can do. Im running 3-5psi with very satisfactory results.
