My 411 pound anvil

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for another anvil a little heavier than my 134# mouse hole maybe 200# or so and ran across this! It's a little heavier than I was looking for but it has great rebound and nice sharp corners. It does have a pretty good dip in the center but I can live with that. It has a cross and then queens Dudley warranted under that and the guy told me it was a joseph Wilkinson but I can 't read that part so I'll take his word for it. It has a 15/16" pritchel hole and a 1 3/8" hardie hole. The flat horn is nice and flat so I can use that if I need a longer flat spot. It rings like a bell so I'm gonna have to get it mounted good and see if I can quiet it down some. Let me know what you think. So far I like I'm happy with it.

411 pounds of splendid!  I've never seen an anvil with the hardie and pritchel in that configuration.  Very neat.

My Wilkinson anvil rang like a church bell and really upset the neighbors way over the way.  So I put down a layer of silicone caulk between the anvil and stump.  98% drop in tone with nothing more than some silicone caulk!  Definitely a pleasure to work on, now.
