October 19, 201312 yr Anyone know of a tutorial about wrapping a blade with copper just above the guard? Thanks, Dave
October 19, 201312 yr Are you thinking of something like the habaki on Japanese blades? If so, here is a short Youtube video of a Japanese maker going through most of the process here:http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HpR5N7T-Abo It unfortunately in Japanese, but the auto translate works will help you get through the video. You can see all the steps with just the video though.
October 19, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the link! She was going too fast for my old etes to follow, though :) Dave
October 19, 201312 yr http://jhbladesmith.com/craft/habaki-making/ http://home.mchsi.com/~hermits/HabakiEssay_1.html Dave the term is "Habaki" Above is two links and if you do a google search - https://www.google.co.za/search?q=HABAKI+TUTORIAL&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&ei=lhxiUrvHKIiR0QXBuIHoCQ you should come right.

October 20, 201312 yr Author I have seen many, many knives with the wrap, I think mostly frontier style Bowies. Don't know if it is the same process or not. I will watch the latest movies posted but I don't think I want to hammer the copper into shape against any of my blades :) Anyway, thanks for the leads. Next time I see one I will SAVE the link and a pic or two. Dave
October 20, 201312 yr There is a good article in "the best of the hammer Vol.2" that produces a habaki from copper pipe. I am not sure if it is still in print.
