jimd ma
Wondering if any body had any idea of this anvils possible maker and age? I'm thinking this is different than most because it has a little hump on either side at the base almost like two extra legs. The measurements of the face are apx. 5"x11.5 the horn is 5.5" stands about 10" high and weighs 147 pounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much! 101 H-B
Wonderful, classic early colonial anvil. I don't think there's any knowing who made it, but certainly made in England. Age range, again tough, but the stocky proportions and pointed feet are before the triangular feet tips of 1800-1870, so best guess 1700's somewhere, possibly as early as 1600's. The hint of middle feet shows up now and then, some only have it on one side.
njanvilman
I have a colonial similar to yours. As 101 H-B said, it dates into the 1700's. If only these could talk...what a history they must have. Imagine all of the work done on it for the last 250 years, and all of the places it has been.
Black Frog
Great anvil! I'll have a look through the "Anvils Through Out The Ages" book to find similar styles and dates. I would enjoy finding something like that!

smokey21962
My first anvil purchase is a colonial anvil with the 5th toe. it does not have the ledge behind the horn like most anvils . if you get it in the light just right you can make out a S on the side . figure that means Sheffield ? iron woodrow
my anvil can talk, it says RING RING RING! I translated this as joyful cheering! when it is silent it is lamenting its lonely sad times of not being used.
